The Worst Decision Possible
The third artwork in the collection is the far left piece of Morgana, representing the worst decision possible when faced with lots of work: the decision to pull an all nighter. Unlike the other two pieces, I want this decision to show a negative impact. Despite her work being completed, papers are scattered and Morgana is wide awake, disgruntled. The morning like is desaturated and colder. There are no magical elements in the piece, just the bland reality. Compared to the other two pieces, the world is still and even miserable after a night of no sleep. It's a state of paranoia.
There isn't a whole lot to say about this piece on it's own. Rather, it is meant to be the juxtaposition to the other two pieces. Hopefully the composition and texture of the digital painting will be enough to provide an entertaining standalone piece, but only my rendering skills will determine that when the time comes.
Speaking of rendering, this style will be more of a "usual" painting technique that I usually do. There will be no definitive line work, it will all be a mesh of harsh light and shadows with painterly textures and soft edges to blend background elements. After lot of sculpting because of my portfolio burnout, I feel that I've lost my fundamental skills in 2D drawing. Even when drawing in my portfolio, I wasn't exactly practicing techniques. These three pieces will hopefully provide a chance to reinforce my understanding of the four pillars of illustration: value, shape, edge, and color.
